HBI believes that in-country and local health providers are the best people to take care of their own communities. To this end, we work with local providers to identify the resources they need to best meet the health needs of their communities. We work with local providers and organizations to advance the knowledge of care givers, build networks of collaborations in order to deliver the highest quality health and human services. We work hand in hand with our partners to offer a range of health related services focused on the unique, and often complex, needs of marginalized communities.

Health Professions Student Placements
An important part of our work is connecting young professionals in training together around service learning projects. We've worked with a number of health professions training programs (medical and nursing schools, physical therapy programs, pre-health sciences colleges and universities, etc.) to connect students and early career professionals with their colleagues through community and hospital/clinic based service learning. We partner with academic institutions to provide meaningful experiences for young professionals in training to learn about health care in developing countries and the cultural differences of health systems. We are continually looking for new partners and opportunities to share our collaborative model of adult learning and service-based learning. Some of our partners include: Linfield College School of Nursing, Oregon Health and Sciences University, the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and St. Olaf College.

Dental Outreach
Dental care is a tremendous health need in underserved communities. For over a decade, HBI has worked with volunteer Peruvian dentists to bring comprehensive dental services to women and children in extremely marginalized areas. From impoverished urban communities to prisons and orphanages, HBI works with Peruvian dentists to serve Peruvian patients.
Through a generous donation from a North American partner, HBI has the equipment to facilitate mobile dental clinics in remote areas. From restorative care to palliative care, HBI dentists can serve a broad range of dental needs. International volunteers are invited to join their Peruvian colleagues on the outreach projects. Team Perú Service Learning Trips
For over twenty years, HBI has collaborated with in-country partners on service learning trip. Our trip started as a social outreach mission and has grown over the years to be linked strongly with HBI’s ongoing “bridge building” projects. The Team Peru outreach trips are a combination of public health activities, minor construction projects in support of our in-country partners, and social outreach programs. We focus on relationship building – person-to-person connections, where a smile and a handshake and a kiss on the cheek are critical tools for your work.
The HBI Team Peru trips are very gratifying adventures. Through the years, hundreds of people have participated in Team Peru outreach and report a rich experience. Although the trips are very demanding and involve a significant commitment of time, energy and resources. They offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself into a community and work side-by-side with a diverse group of colleagues on meaningful projects. HBI supports two Team Peru trips per year - one in June/July and another in October. Each trip has a slightly different focus - but the objective remains the same, building bridges with our partners, international volunteers, and the people and communities we serve. For more information about how you can join one of the Team Peru outreach trips - contact us at: info@HBInt.org

Street Outreach
Working in collaboration with local health providers and social service advocates, HBI brings services directly to the streets for adults living in the experience of homelessness. Starting in 2015, HBI re-initiated a street outreach project to serve the diverse needs of men experiencing homelessness living along the bluffs of the Costa Verde (green coast) of Lima.
Our street outreach project focuses on building relationships and recruiting local providers into sustainable efforts. A big part of the street outreach efforts of HBI has been identifying the needs and linking individuals to services and supports. The program is in the early stages of development - but hopes to grow over the next year with a team of volunteers and an HBI intern.
