Health Bridges International advocates with marginalized communities, building bridges of collaboration, to serve and improve the health needs of all.
Letter from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,
In 2016 we celebrated our 10th anniversary as a non-governmental organization. To say this has been a whirlwind experience is a bit of an understatement. The past ten years have flown by and the HBI that we are today is beyond what any of us could have ever imagined.
HBI has become an organization truly focused on building solid, health and well-being bridges for future generations. From our humble beginnings of short-term campaigns and volunteer-led projects, we are now an organization that is developing models for service delivery to underserved women and children, and linking these models to pathways for growth and expansion.
If you had told me in just ten short years we would have a staff of 8, creating some of the most innovative programs for working with marginalized populations in Latin America, while shaping opportunities for future generations of change agents - I would not have believed you. Well, here we are, ten yeas later, doing just that.
In 2016 alone, we worked in a number of mission-driven ways to serve and support people living in extreme poverty. Our work centered on the four Pillars of our organization: training, consulting, connecting, and serving. In 2016, through your generous support we::
Thanks to your generosity and ongoing support, we have built lasting bridges to improve health and opportunity for marginalized individuals and communities - and still, there is more work to be done - together.
Stay tuned and please keep building bridges . . . one person at a time. Thank you.

In 2016 alone, we worked in a number of mission-driven ways to serve and support people living in extreme poverty. Our work centered on the four Pillars of our organization: training, consulting, connecting, and serving. In 2016, through your generous support we::
- Trained over 500 nurses and midwives in lifesaving neonatal resuscitation.
- Provided health education, dental care, and targeted health services to over 1,500 children.
- Completed a step-by-step manual for implementing our Ines Project for Medically Fragile Children.
- Developed a novel electronic health record system for agencies serving former street youth.
- Fortified a future Center of Excellence serving abandoned youth alongside the Peruvian government.
- Provided evidence based training to over 500 physicians, nurses, and midwives around Perú in partnerships with U.S. and Peruvian hospitals and universities.
- Launched an emergency medicine training program with Northwell Hospital System, the Fire Department of New York, and the Arequipa firefighters to train first responders in BLS and ALS under a USAID curriculum.
- Completed a survey and built a website of all street youth serving programs and agencies in the City of Lima.
- Provided trainings on trauma informed care to teachers, youth providers, and healthcare professionals.
- Hosted three volunteer, service-learning teams – St. Olaf College, Linfield College of Nursing, and Riverdale High School.
- Spoke at two prestigious international conferences (APHA and WHO) and three universities (St. Olaf, Linfield, and OHSU).
- Presented at the First Annual Conference on Family and Health at Catholica University in Arequipa.
- Launched a new website and donor management software system.
Thanks to your generosity and ongoing support, we have built lasting bridges to improve health and opportunity for marginalized individuals and communities - and still, there is more work to be done - together.
Stay tuned and please keep building bridges . . . one person at a time. Thank you.
