I've always felt the act of giving is deeply rooted in a desire to serve. I truly believe inside all of us is a desire to be of service to others. We have some many people who generously give their time and resources in service to Health Bridges. I am particularly thankful for the young people who serve. For the past few months - a young girl has been saving a portion of her allowance and the money she makes through recycling bottles and cans, and donating to HBI. Her only request - "can you please use the money to help make the boys a little happier." So, for the past few months - we've used the money for small "parties" for the boys. In fact, just a couple of days ago - we treated the boys at the home in Ica to ice cream sundaes. A real treat indeed. It is amazing - the response on the part of the boys - when we tell them a 9-year old girl in the United States has been saving her money to buy them ice cream. It has a huge impact. I am so thankful for the many people who give in service. I am especially thankful for our little 9-year old supporter.
The HBI Blog is a rotating journal from our staff. Our Blog is a series of messages from the field, insights from our work, and lessons in service.
