Loss of HBI friend and partner: Our condolences and warm wishes go out to the family of Mr. Paul McMahon, HBI Advisory Board Member and former BOD member. HBI has sent a card of sympathy and will make a donation to the P. F. McMahon Memorial Scholarship Fund for the Performing Arts. This is truly a tragic loss.

Dr. Wayne Centrone – Executive Director and Board of Directors President; Wayne is currently juggling the roles of ED and Board President – on top of his “day job” with the Center for Social Innovation. Wayne brings years of experience in the direct delivery of healthcare services to marginalized populations and the learned knowledge of a systems thinker. Wayne works out of the Portland office of HBI – in theory, as most of his time is best crammed into the luxurious seating of airplanes.

Dr. Robert Gehringer - Project Director; Dr. Gehringer comes to HBI with years of direct clinical experience as a pediatrician and a physician administrator; his work in developing countries spans many countries and multiple decades. Dr. Gehringer helps to act as a bridge to healthcare programs and projects in Peru and U.S. based groups. HBI is very fortunate to have the skills and talents of Dr. Bob (as he is affectionately known in Peru).

Karen Falkenstein - Project Coordinator and Nursing Coordinator; Karen is a fantastic addition to the HBI Team. Her background in emergency department and oncology nursing gives her an uncanny ability to constantly balance bigger picture needs with day-to-day operational details. She currently works out of Alto Cayma and is involved in a multitude of projects – from provider placement assistance to over seeing major research and data collection project. HBI is very proud to have Karen on our team.

Paola Rosario Buenos Rojas - Peruvian Dental Coordinator; Paola is a third year dental student and a fourth year English language instruction student from Lima. She has worked with HBI in various capacities for over 5 years. Currently, Paola helps to coordinate our dental projects and is a scholarship recipient under the HBI Professional Development Program. Paola is an energetic young woman with a phenomenal future. We at HBI are proud to have her on the team.

César Daniel Bueno Rojas - Peruvian Campaign Coordinator; Daniel is a long term volunteer and employee for HBI. He has helped to structure projects, develop special needs interventions and act as an in-country legal resource. Daniel will complete his law school education in September of 2008 and take the licensure examination in the fall. HBI is very proud to have Daniel working with our varied projects – he is a really dynamic leader with a broad base of skills and talents.

Benjamin Grass – Project Coordinator and Communications Director; Ben is an energetic self starter and a real asset to the HBI team. Ben brings years of volunteer experience in Latin America and a real passion for service. Ben currently works out of the Portland office of HBI to help with program coordination and to ensure that the communications of our organization are current and effective. Ben is a very important member of the HBI family.
